Red Bulls Salzburg: No Bull for the Second Time

EC Red Bull Salzburg won the The Erste Bank Eishockey Liga , also known as the Austrian Hockey League, Bundesliga Final Championship this past Tuesday for the second title in so many years. They defeated HDD Olimpija Ljubljana 3-2 in game six of the finals.

The Red Bull’s are coached by Pierre Pagé who spent thirteen seasons in the NHL with the Minnesota North Stars, Québec Nordiques, Calgary Flames and the Anaheim Mighty Ducks. The French-Canadian moved to Europe in 2000 to coach in Switzerland with HC Ambrì-Piotta and then on to Eisbären Berlin in the DEL, with whom he won two championships.

Seven ex-NHL’ers skate for Pagé Red Bull’s: Frank Banham (CAN), Josh Green (CAN), Darby Hendrickson (USA), Craig Johnson, (USA), Juha Lind (FIN), Donald MacLean (CAN) and Remi Royer (CAN).

Josh Green, 30, (pictured at left), finished 3rd in the league this year in scoring with 27 goals, 30 assists for 57 point in 58 games. Green, an NHL journeyman, was the Los Angeles Kings' 2nd round choice (30th overall) in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft. He played 322 NHL games for the Kings, Oilers, Rangers, Capitals, Flames and Canucks before going to play in Austria this season.

The Erste Bank Eishockey Liga, originally founded in 1923, has recently added teams from Slovenia and Hungary.
