It was the last place he thought he would find real evil.
When the generals take over his native Buenos Aires, Reuben loses everything; his fortune, his wife and his twin baby daughters. Years later, with the Dirty War just a distant memory, he sets out to find them.
In the intervening years, they have grown into beautiful young women; but neither of them knows the other exists. Or that Reuben even exists.
His search leads him to a dangerous man with powerful links to the international arms business and the secret inner world of the Vatican itself.
Reuben has spent his whole life believing himself to be a coward. Can he now find the courage to do what he must to save his daughters, and find redemption at last in the face of an unimagined evil?
"A fine, strong story, mysterious and bittersweet, told in a style so economical it almost makes the reader breathless - you just want to keep turning the pages. It's been a time since I was so entertained." - Campbell Armstrong.
Colin Falconer is the international best selling author of ANASTASIA and VENOM and over two dozen other best selling novels. His books have been translated into 23 languages.

Another good read by Mr. Falconer! The setting is in Buenos Aires, Rome and London from 1974 and 1990 something. It is about the power grab after WAR11 made by the most unscrupulous of characters. Some other reviewer said there was not one likable person in the book. I agree. There were some trying to be good and others who could not be good if they tried. I liked how the author uses some fictitious and some real characters to tell a story that was partly fiction and and partly real. I knew next to nothing about the South American intrigues until I read this book. ( I studied the countries in South America in fifth grade. It had been a while.) I found it easy to read and liked the action all the way to the very last page.

Than I you, Mr. Falconer, for a Good Read!

Disappeared twentieth century stories Book 8 edition by Colin Falconer Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

I knew something of the topic before I read this book, but not very much. This book makes you think, and you can see the emotional issues from all sides. I felt this novel was better than an historical account, as of " then the soldiers did this", in helping me to understand what transpired. I think the whole war very sad though. It didn't need to happen.
Well written and fast paced as I have found most of his books to be. His movements between characters is flawless and easy to follow. If you enjoy suspense, drama, and heartache; this is the book for you.
This book was great fun (if torture, murder and political violence is your idea of fun). Just when you think you know where the story is going it twists on you. Good stuff from a solid writer.
The story was great, kept me interested through the whole book. BUT, Colin Falconer needs to get a new editor. The book has so many verbiage errors, words miss spelled, misplaced, names mixed up, and typos. In one of the latter chapters Colin is writing about Diana and the editor didn't catch his error of using Gabriella's name the whole chapter. It is a good book except for that.
This writer is new to me, and I am looking forward to reading more of his books. He has a great knack of incorporating a fast-paced crime novel with a historical background. This was quite disturbing in this book, since the history was real and quite horrific. I couldn't put the book down. The story line was intriguing and the writing was well thought out and superbly written. I'd highly recommend reading this book.
I had a hard time staying interested in this book. Its one of those flashback books that seem to be very popular now. Sometimes that works, sometimes it just muddles things up and that's what it does in this book. There are a lot of characters that the story is divided between but the main character seems to be a detective working a cold case. The background of the victims life and times could have been covered in one part of the book and then the detective work covered in the second half. Or there could have been fewer side stories in the time jumps, I don't know what exactly but my mind kept wanting to edit the book.
I received a free advance e-copy of this book and have chosen to write an honest and unbiased review. I have no personal affiliation with the author. Wow! Another extremely well researched piece of historical fiction by one of my all time favorite authors who never disappoints. Argentina is an amazing country with a past full of political unrest and upheaval that still continues into the present day. As I read I felt like I was on an emotional rollercoaster. This is a dark and tragic story that touched me to the core with an amazing and emotional ending. It is obvious that ‘Disappeared’ is well written by a great storyteller who isn’t afraid to tell it like it is. This book is well worth the read and I look forward to reading more from Colin Falconer in the future.
